October 2003 flooding had a major impact on backcountry roads & trails, including the Mountain Loop Highway. Be
sure to check the USFS road conditions and

Darrington is about 75 miles northeast of Seattle.

If you're considering a visit to Darrington, try to bring some binoculars and a camera because this is one of the most
beautiful places in the United States. The Mountain Loop Magic trail and hiking guide1 (updated January 2003)
is a great way to become familiar with the trails and other recreation opportunities in this area.

There are lots of recreational activities here, and knowing where to go is part of the adventure. A good place to start is the
Darrington Ranger Station
or the Sauk River Trading Post - both
can provide lots of information about the incredible nature activities in the area.

How to get to Darrington
From Seattle (or Vancouver, BC):
- take I-5 to the Highway 530 (Arlington/Darrington) exit (#208) - approximately 43 miles north of Seattle.
- go East on Hwy. 530 (through Arlington) for about 30 miles. For visual directions, view the map.
